I took full advantage of the 'far-too-short weekend' and stayed very busy. We spent all day Saturday garage-saling in neighboring suburbs. Luckily the weather managed to stay clear of any rain, but it was quite windy. I managed to snag several amazing finds, or at least they are amazing by my standards. Here are a few:
Hand-painted Italian Cake Platter - $1.00
Hand-Painted Vase - $7.00
Antique Stainless Steel Pot Holder - $0.50
Silk, silver dress - $4.00 (Don't worry, i'm getting it dry cleaned before I wear it!)
Since I was sooo thrifty all morning, I felt that it'd be okay to spend some [more] money and spent the late afternoon through early evening shopping. I'm so lucky that I have a boyfriend who likes to shop, other wise I don't think he could ever put up with me! One thing that we FINALLY did was frame a painting... we've been putting it off for a year. [Us = Procrastinators] In May 2010, we were on vacation in Las Vegas, NV and had a caricature drawn of ourselves inside Planet Hollywood. Final result? Here:
Instead of taking it to a frame shop (the initial idea), I am proud to say that I did this myself! The simple black frame is from JoAnne Fabrics - 50% off, and the red matting (background) is a thicker construction paper - $2.99. GRAND TOTAL = $17.38! What a steal! Being thrifty is in.
Moving on... A shopping adventure is never complete without buying something that forces you to feel a bit guilty...buyers remorse...the "did I really need this?" purchase:
I couldn't help myself. I even slept on it for TWO DAYS. [I never do that, i'm what you might call an "impulse buyer".] This was a necessary purchase. This was a necessary purchase. This... was... a... necessary... purchase!!!! I have to repeat it over and over again so that I can convince myself that it's true. Thank you Francesca's for having a sale, one because I got a new purse, and two, you persuaded my boyfriend into buying me a nice pair of yellow earrings and a gorgeous coral-colored necklace. :)
Saturday evening consisted of chinese take-out from Orient Express and lots of lounging in our pj's on the couch. (Perfection!)
Goodbye fantastic weekend, Hello awful Monday........
