Lucy! I'm Home!

A few days ago, on August 6th, Lucille Ball turned 100 years old. She is one of my all-time favorite ladies. I grew up watching I Love Lucy and still watch it when i'm fortunate enough to come across it on tv every now and then. Actually, as I type this, i'm tuned in to a Lucy marathon on the Hallmark channel! I miss Nick-At-Nite, the channel that had all the classics like I Love Lucy, Happy Days, Bewitched, and I Dream of Jeannie. Bring it back, I say!

One of the big reasons that I loooove I Love Lucy is because the Ricardo's remind me so much of my grandparents. My grandma, the crazy American woman, and my grandpa, the foreign man with the thick accent. My grandpa, however, was not Cuban (he was Mexican), but the fact that they both spoke Spanish and the way they both said "you got some 'splainin' to do!" was all it took for me to compare my grandpa to Ricky. That, and he liked arroz con pollo, too.

Vicente & Nancy aka "Ricky & Lucy"

A few of my favorite episodes were most likely everyone else's favorites as well. The classic "Vitameatavegamin" episode - Lucy Does A CommercialJob Switching, where Lucy and Ethel work at a candy shop; and Lucy's Italian Movie where she is mistaken for one of the workers - a wine stomper.

Ahhh they just don't make shows like this any more. Or clothes - I would give my right arm for half the dresses, hats, and shoes that Lucy wore through out the 6 years the show aired. Gotta love vintage!

Happy Birthday!
