Budget-Friendly Christmas

You know it's going to be an "off" day when you think today is Thursday... ONLY because when you log in to Blogger and see someone posted an "Awkward and Awesome" post.

I wiiiiiiiish it was Thursday!

Any ways....

Today is budget day. What does that mean? It means i'm having some serious buyers remorse and need to figure out where all my money is going. I am using mint.com for all my budgeting needs right now, and I woke up to 3 alerts this morning:

1. "You have gone over-budget on Coffee Shops"
*Guilty*

2. "Low balance in checking account"
*Ouch...*

3. "You're paying more than average for auto insurance"
*Thank you mint.com for reminding me that my awful driving past is here to stay. Self proclaimed #leadfoot*

Those are not things I want to wake up to! These days, I am typically pretty good with my money. In my late teens and early 20s however... that was a different story. I believe my saving grace was getting hired at a credit union. It taught me so much about money and how to save, manage, and handle it. I rarely have any major credit card debt, nor do I ever get those nasty overdrawn checking fees anymore! However........ We tend to dine out a lot versus buying groceries, as well as shop unusually too often for clothes and other miscellaneous "necessities".

So to cure these over-spending blues, i'm going to be kind to my checking and savings account over the holidays. Call me crazy if you please. I'm going to focus on making more home-made gifts for friends and family this year. Luckily Pinterest has given me some wonderful inspiration!

PS. I was trying to come up with a witty name for my less-spending December like, "Sober October" or "No Shave November", but my cleverness is no where to be found today. Sorry.
