The Day That Blogger Deleted My Blog

Picture your worst nightmare...

-Voldemort hiding under your bed?

-Giant sharks biting your arms off? (Thank you JAWS for ruining my life.)

-Taking a shower before work, then opening the shower curtain to find a killer in your bathroom?

-Waking up in Wisconsin? (ay-day.)

-Finding out they closed the Cinnabon at your local mall food-court?

Yes, these are all my nightmares.

But none of these compare to the horror of logging in to Blogger yesterday and seeing that my blog had been deleted.

I am pretty sure I emailed quite a few of you asking if this had ever happened to you, and what to do when it does!

I commented on Blogger forums.

I tweeted @blogger like a psychopath saying "GIVE ME BACK MY BLOG".

I emailed a generic email address in hopes that a non-robot would reply back.

Then, after a solid 24 hours of waiting, tweeting, yelling, and crying (a little bit)...

I'm baaaaaaaack!

What did I learn in all of this fiasco?
ALWAYS SAVE YOUR BLOG.

***

It's simple:
1. Export the content of your blog by going to settings from your dashboard, and click on "Export blog".

2. Click on "Download blog".

3. Save the template of your blog:

Go to Design and click on Edit HTML / Click on "Download Full Template" and save it.

***

So now if Blogger ever decided to pull this crap again, I'll be more prepared.

Also, what are your thoughts on switching to Wordpress?

Happy Wednesday!

That IS a nightmare. I just downloaded my blog and template. I think I might be using the new interface vs. the old because the pathways were a bit different than your instructions. To save the template, go to "Template" and there is a "backup / restore" button in the top right hand corner. To download your whole blog, go to "Settings" --> "Other" and then click on "Export Blog."
Thanks for the tips. I am definitely prepared for a Blogger catastrophe.

That is such a crappy bummer. But at least you got it back! I will say though, I'd be pleasantly pleased if Voldemort was suddenly under my bed. It'd mean I'd been a witch all along!

Can you say "terrible feeling in the pit of the stomach"??!?!?! That sucks sooooooooo bad. Did anyone say what happened? You just reminded me to download my blog HTML again. SO GLAD it's back up! (I seriously would go into panic mode)

Umm the shark, and bathroom fears I totally agree with. Like daily the shower one freaks me out and then sharks are one of many reasons why I don't go in the ocean or lakes or really any body of water except a pool/hot tub.

Glad its back!

Yep, I went through this too! Talk about a nervous wreck!!! A month later I made the move from Blogger to WP! I love it! I hired a girl to do it for me, as well as a new design, to make sure it was done right. But I've heard you can do it yourself, it just takes some time and research.
